Georgia May

So my latest model crush is on the terribly gorgeous, Georgia May Jagger. I mean it stands to reason that she turn out to be frickin' divine given she's the daughter of Mick and Jerry, but geez talk about getting the best of both. She's got Mick's lips and breezy Brit style and Jerry's height, hair and smile. It's enough to make you sick.

Longstanding Surryferners will know that I'm a major fan of the gappy-toothed smile (Susie Sue, Tonze I'm talking to you) and GMJ exhibits one of the best in the business.

She doesn't take herslelf too seriously, another paternal genetic throwback methinks and appears to have a healthy sense of fun. Surely a requirement in the crazy world of high fashion and celebmania.

Good luck to GMJ I say!

Met Ball - 2011

Chloe Sevigny: Alexander McQueen.
Well there's something very special about the Met Ball. Every year it's this event that showcases the very best of celebrity/fashion fodder. Year after year we see the hottest of models, designers, actors and other forms of celebrities at this terribly fabulous New York event, and every year it throws out some fabulous fashion pics.
This year the late and very great Alexander McQueen was honoured. Enough said.
I was keen to suss out Blake Lively (in Chanel as always), Alexa Chung, Miranda Kerr and Orlando (will they may an appearance?), Anna Wintour, what about my current fave Georgia May Jagger. Take a look for yourself and let me know if you agree with my favourates.
Ashley Olsen: Vintage Dior
Wow, is it just me, or is this dress a stroke of genius? Turn of the century puff tied sleeves on a sleek, modern evening gown. Sexy and yet so damsel in distress. I love the pirate wench sleeves.
Ginnifer Goodwin: TopShop
The lady works this Top Shop like it was Gucci, which I thought it was! I've said it before (recently) and I'll say it again. Emerald green is fabulous right now. Ginnifer works this cut-out gown with 'tude and I love it. And check out that jade neacklace. Yes please.

I don't usually love Anna Wintour's choices. Don't get me wrong, she's always immaculately dressed but a little too prim for me. Which is part of her appeal, I get that. Anyway, this year she blitzed it at the ball in a custom Chanel gown. Isn't it just so great? There's something about it that's kind of... inappropriate. But when its draped on the body of one of the world's most thoughtful fashionistas, it suddenly becomes completely appropriate. Loved it.
Anna Wintour: Chanel.
Gwenyth Paltrow: Stella McCartney
Gwyneth never really challenges the norm too much, and she certainly doesn't here but this dress is a pretty great look on her.
Christina Ricci: Zac Posen
Talk about drama. Now this is the kind of dress I expect to see at the Met Ball. It's a ball after all.

Blake Lively: Chanel
This represents a bit of a departure for Blake and I'm liking that she's trying something new in terms of shape, but I don't think it's her best look yet. Now I don't trash talk Blake, but I have to say, I'm not loving her new hair colour. It's reminiscent of one L Lohan. Not cool.

Brooklyn Decker: Michael Kors
You see unlike Christina Ricci, this isn't a ball gown but it's simple, well cut and she's a knock-out in it. I want this dress.

Leelee Sobieski: Vionnet
There's something very Princess Leia about this outfit which works for me. I can also see Jerry Hall minxing into Studio 54 in it. Great restaint shown and great belt.
Jennifer Lopez: Gucci
Less restraint shown here but what do you expect from JLO? I am starting to like her red carpet choices more and more of late. Does she have a new stylist?
Sarah Jessica Parker: Alexander McQueen
Ok so it's not ground-breaking but look at that detail and the beading. It's a work of art. McQueen of course. Hair looks great too. She's trying new things with her hair which is cool. Who's the guy?

The Wedding...

Kate Middleton in Alexander McQueen
We've all ooh'ed and ahh'd over it now but here's my summation of the event just in case you haven't had enough.

So the bride wore McQueen. Hooray! Just as I was hoping.

Here are my thoughts on Kate's dress. Wonderfully Grace of Monaco up top, beautifully simple. Fabulously flattering neckline that was beautiful, classic and a little but sexy all in one. Loved the soft veil. Silk tuille with hand embroidered flowers on the trim. What a special item for her to hang onto and perhaps pass on to a daughter. Gorgeous full skirt and train but not too old fashioned. What a tiny little waist she has and so beautifully presented in that cinched in gown. I think she hit the right balance between tradition (lace, hand embroidery etc) and modernism (simple, choosing McQueen, lack of jewels apart from fabulous diamond earrings).
The Duchess and Duke of Cambridge
And Pippa her little sister looked so chic and modern and stylish. Divine. I mean she's still a commoner isn't she, ;)  so I can say it: she looked hot. Absolutley hot.
Pippa Middleton.
Ok now to the boys, how hot did Harry and Wills look in heir official get-up? Spunks! I'd like to see Harry and Pippa hook up at the after party, sorry Chelsea but what a fab pair they'd make.
Princes William and Harry
As for the guests, well I can't say I was terribly impressed. Were any of you? I don't doubt there was an awful lot of hairspray used and  hours in the salons of London used by the congregation in preparation, but really, apart form a few standouts, I didn't see much in the way of chic day wedding dressing. And it was a roayl wedding being watched by over 2 billion people!
I thought Victoria and David Beckham looked fabulous. She six months pregnant in one of her own designs and a Phillip Treacy hat, looked appropriate and stylish I thought. He clad in a traditional morning suit and sporting wonderfully debonair hair looked sensationtional.
David and Victoria Beckham
Some of the European royalty upped the standard including Princesses Marie Chantal of Greece and Letizia of Asturias. Both adhering to traditional morning wedding attire rules (one colour across dress, jacket and accessories) but not in the dull manner carried out by so many of the other guests.
Princess Letizia of Asturias

Princess Marie Chantal of Greece
I thought Sophie Windsor looked great. She was decked out in nay Armani and again, played by the palace rules without saying goodbye to current fashion and she did it well.
Sophie Windsor
But fashion aside, one of the most touching things about this wedding is the way Wills kept whispering nice things like "I love you" and "you look beautiful" and winking at her presumably to stop her getting too freaked out and nervous. Just a little reminder that at the end of the day, regardless of the 2.4billion people watching, its just their wedding after all. Ahhhhh.

SAGs - Winners and Losers

After the saucy and chic spread of gowns we were given at the Golden Globes, I was chomping at the Gucci bit to see what the ladies offered at the Screen Actor's Guild Awards.  And the good news is, the ladies didn't disapoint.

Woman of the moment Natalie Portman was pure, white, elegance in Azzaro. Having mastered the art of dressing superbly while pregnant, she has upped the ante once again off the big screen.
Interestingly, newly appointed Versace ambassador January Jones was wearing Carolina Herrera. Fashion forward and willing to break the rules, January's rivalling the uber models right now in terms of bringing mass exposure to designers.
Again Helena Bonham Carter shook up the Hollywood heavies with her take on red carpet and I loved it. A llittle more orthodox than the Golden Globes ensemble but when paired with the sunglass of the moment, the retro Clubmaster, she elevates the otherwise simple black and white gown to Coolest Girl in School level.
Christina Hendricks has a body made for sin and she relishes opportunities to flash it to us with bits of breast and lashings of leg  always on show. This time it was L'Wren scott. Flattering and sublimely cut but I don't think black's her best colour. Give me emerald green next time please Christina.
Glee girl Michelle Lea stepped up to the fashion plate in an Oscar de la Renta fail-safe gown. Stunning, beautifully sexy but given her age, I think she can push the boundaries more. She can wear this if Glee's still cutting it in 20 years time.
I was very impressed to see Nicole Kidman step away from white last night. She vamped it up in a black Nina Ricci lace spanish style number, reinstating her fashion credibility. I also loved her hair. Up, loose and sexy. Nic had the glint in her eye again. Big tick Nic.
Clare Danes went for classic and feminine in Louis Vuitton. Pretty, feminine and understated but a genuine awards gown worn well. Again, great hair. Classic. No bells and whistles.
But my number 1 SAG girl for 2011? Well I just loved Hillary Swank in this piece of picture perfect Versace. Great hair, great colour, great cut. What a woman.

Golden Globes - my verdict

Well apparently it was a hot old day in Hollywood today. January 16, 80 degrees farenheit... but what of the frocks. Were they hot? Well, kind of. They were better than they often are but there were still the obligatory shockers.

I'm always amazed when I see the celebs on the red carpet and how safe they are. Always the same, nothing that interesting, princess dresses everywhere, un natural hair dos not doing much for anyone and too many flesh tones on people who shouldn't wear flesh tones (Nic...?).
The No Shows
Firstly, I was hanging out all day to see what Blake Lively wore and she wasn't even there?! And what of Marianne Coulthard? I desperately wanted to see this French beauty in all her pregnant glory. And what about George and Elisabetta? I hang out for them every year. Where were they? SNuggles up in bed watching it on tele in Como I suppose.
The Big Ticket Items
I was also keen to see Natalie (Portman), Angelina, Helena (Bonham Carter), Toni Colette and Jackie Weaver. Well Jackie and Toni didn't rate a mention. Disappointing but still heros in my eyes. So to Natalie. 6 months pregnant and looking very relaxed. What a face! And what a dress. It's the kind of dress you don't openly LOVE at the outset but once you look at her in it, all bump and beauty, you end up loving it. Viktor and Rolf and very cool. And with the trend of the night. Red lips. Fabulous.
The Class Acts
Angelina. Fabulous. Ange hasn't wowed me since that amazing jade jewellery she wore a few years back but wow did she pull out the big guns tonight. Absolutely gorgeous in an emerald Versace to the floor sequined gown. Dynasty pointy shoulders, high round neck, loose, natural hair... the lot. It worked Ange it really did.
Helena. I love Helena. Always guaranteed to break up the LA monotony with a mish mash of who knows what on her person. Today in Vivienne Westwood complete with bustle, mismatching shoes, mini tortoise shell club masters, birds nest hair and dramatic makeup, Helena made me smile. And in the midst of a fairly uninteresting broadcast, that was nice. Ah thank you for being un-Hollywood.
January Jones. I loved her cobalt blue Versace last year with the coffee filter boobs and she managed to back it up this year with a sizzling red Versace to the floor fringed number. HOT. Ignore the MISS branding on this pic. I LOVE it.
Clare Danes and Emma Stone from Easy A, both wore fab tangerine and pink Calvin Klein collection gowns. Beautiful. Sleek. Simple. Surprising and fresh. Big tick ladies.
The Unknowns
There were the unknowns (to ma anyway) like Jennifer Lawrence whom i don't know but she looked great in a black Louis Vuitton 50s number, and Olivia Wilde from  House worked a very large but impressive mocha Marchesa.  Last year Sofia Vegara an Unknown to me, but I've since fallen in love the with Modern Family. I LOVE her. And tonight i loved her in the red va va voom dress which cinched her waist, brought forth her boobs and just generally accentuated her fabulous Latino ness. Like Natalie, Sofia rocked a dress I'd never wear.

The Greenies
A lotta green this year. The aforementioned Angelina, as well as Catherine Zeta Jones, Elisabeth Moss and the stunning Mila Kunis. Breathtaking in emerald, just like Ange, only different. And lets just look at Annie again. Isn't this just a triumph? LOVING Annie in that dress.

The Not-So-Hot
I really love Sandy Bullock but I didn't love her dress tonight. What was that? I'm not sure but it didn't work. J Lo. I love you too. A "slammin" body but that white thing with the chiffon crystal embellished cape... NO! Christina Aguleira. Another serial offender. No. Milla Jovovich. Nope. You should know better. Michelle Williams - in the same basket as Sandy. I love you and I wanted to love your outfit. But no. Not great. Despite being designed by a very Valentino. Scarlett. Again. You should know better. You can wear ANYTHING. Maybe it was the recent break up from cute hubbie Ryan Reynolds. Ok she's grieving. But no. Not a good dress. It was an oversized, nude (that culprit again) butterfly winged doily. Jennifer Love Hewitt. I mean its not like I was expecting great things, but this was awful. An ice princess number with far too much fake tan. Just wrong. Heidi Klum. Again, you should know better but you very rarely do. In a weird red toned tarzan number. Not cool!

Most Improved
It gives me great pleasure to give Annie Hathaway this award. I'm not sure if Rachel was finally ballsy enough to talk her into something more fashion forward, I don't know, but the Armani Prive really worked. HOT! And ps. Annie, who's your colourist? Fabulous colour honey. Second Most Improved? Tina Fey. She aint there, but she's a step closer and choosing L'Wren Scott was a good start. Maybe next year.
My Best Dressed Actress
Piper Peribo. No idea who she is but she was the winner. Classic black Oscar de la Renta. Red lips. Flawless skin with, wait for it, NO FAKE TAN! Beautiful hair in a chic and playful pony. Timeless yet modern. Fancy a woman looking young and beautiful and REAL. Love.

My Best Dressed Actor
Robert Downy Junior. Grey suit with red tie. Bang on as always RDJ. And a special mention to RPatz in that navy suit. Suave and beautiful.
