Femme d'armes

So this morning I received an email from a US designer behind a label called Femme d'armes who designed Louise Roe's magnificent black lace dress for the Golden Globes. All good and well except for the fact that I credited this beautiful gown to Vera Wang in my globes wrap up. Quel horreur indeed! My most sincere apologies to the team at Femme d'armes. As we all know, Vera needs no additional publicity so I am thrilled to be able to use the correction as an opportunity to give a plug to a cool designer I was not previously familiar with.

Launched in NYC by sisters Connie and Fannie (you can read more about them here) in 2010, their most recent SS13 collection includes suiting, jumpsuits and my favorite, some fantastic prints. Check the Cherie top and Odette skirt. I LOVE this skirt.

And other beautiful pieces from the collection include:
Femme d'armes SS13: clemence bodysuit with sylvie pant.
Femme d'armes SS13: dillon dress.
Femme d'armes SS13: gitane jumpsuit.
Femme d'armes SS13: bailey dress.
Femme d'armes SS13: gigi jumper.
If you love Femme d'armes too you can buy them online at Shopbop or at the cools.

Coachella Style

Coachella. So hot right now. People at work are even talking about organizing a trip next year. It seems it's fast becoming the coolest music festival around. Deep in the Californian desert, Coachella seems to attract not just the coolest musicians right now but it does pretty well in grabbing A list hotties too. Check out my best of gallery. X

Louis Vuitton Autumn windows

At the moment I'm obsessed with the wonderfully creative and striking windows at the Louis Vuitton maison in Sydney. Some clever merchandiser/artiste dreamt up these fantastic creations featuring coloured arrows. Aren't they just so beautiful?

What to say of this week's Logies? Overall I have to say the level has improved. Bryn Edelstein was nowhere to be seen which instantly raised the average tenfold.

But despite the lifting of the average I can't help but feel a tad underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, there were some highlights but no real showstoppers.

So here's what i thought. On the tele Sonya Kruger’s gown looked pretty great. Fitted superbly, very right for her figure and with a peplum giving her shape and flair all in one kick. Good colour too.
Sonya Kruger in Manning Cartell and Jules Lund
Still on white, Asher Keddie looked fab in J’Aton. I’m not a big fan of J’aton, it’s a bit girly for me. Too lacy pretty but they do cut her dresses immaculately for her body. She looked fab and she wins “Most Articulate on the Red Carpet” too.

Chrissie Swan wore navy which worked beautifully for her skin tone and face, she really is rather beautiful isn’t she. And really, really funny I think too. Unaffected and down to earth. Loveable lady that one.

Chrissie Swan
Rebecca Judd always looked like she turned up to the wrong event to me. She’s always in a gown worth of the Oscars (this year complete with fish tail and organza ruffles) which is fabulous don’t get me wrong, but somehow it kind of seems a bit serious. A bit much. Which is a bit weird. They’re the Logies after all. But she did look great. Just not quite... right.

Rebecca Judd - vintage Toni Matiscevski
Jennifer Hawkins. You see i didn’t love her this year. I’m still recovering after last year’s magnificent white high-necked, long-sleeved number. It was so good in my opinion that it was going to be tough to beat this year but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t have done it. The dress she wore was a pretty colour (jade/aquamarine) but it just looked cheap. The fabric looked cheap and the cut was just plain old unimaginative. Like she picked it up from the Myer formal department for $160 which is a samn shame becase it was made by the very talenteed Toni Matisceski. She was one of the few women there who could have worn ANYTHING in store (’m assuming she has to get her gown from Myer) and she would have had access to any gown but she went with the year ten formal gown from 1991? Silly choice Hawko.

I thought Zoe Foster looked great but then I would wouldnt I because I just hink she's terribly fabulous. She was in Rachel Gilbert. Beautiful, and of course her skin was glowing and stunning.

And Paula Joye wore something vastly different from the kind of boring stuff being paraded by the various TV starlets. Like Sonya Kruger she worked a strong peplum and the striking shape of the dress complete with her stark, modern sleek ponytail delivered a dose of sophistication to the Logies that I found most welcome.

Best hair went to gorgeous young Samara Weaving. A loose, wavy low messy bun with front wispy curls. Love that style. Here's a pic. Isn't it a great style?

Best Dressed at the Oscars? Rose Byrne.

OMG I am seriously IN LOVE with Rose Byrne right now. Don't get me wrong, I've always loved Rose but tonight, on the red carpet (RC) she is absolute heaven.

Statuesque and liquid shiny in a hot, black sequinned gown with the most exquisite shoulder strap and under arm cut out you've ever seen. Its so simple but just so amazing to look at. And then there's the hair. I mean the woman's a genius. If there is one woman that Brad would up and leave Ange for? It's Rose. Hands down.

Ok, now moving on from Rose there were some other star performers tonight. My second place getters include Gwyneth in tight, white, immaculately fitted and cut Tom Ford. I now see how she drags herself out of bed to hammer it with Tracy Anderson every day. It's to be able to get up in front of a gazillion people wearing tight white jersey at 39. Worth every drop of sweat Gwynnie.
And in joint second place I'm going with someone I never give best dressed honours to (ok apart from that time she wore those amazing emerald drop earrings). Its not because she doesn't wear magnificent red carpet worthy gowns but because lately she's been looking a little pale, plastic and generally flat. Like she has nothing to be smiling about. But tonight she was different. She was a real movie star again. In classic black with the best red lips of the night Angelina smashed back into town. Just one thing though... Ange, you seriously need to tuck into some Oporto burgers. Don't hold the mayo.
And lets just have another look at her. She really does look pretty bloody incredible doesn't she?
Who else looked fab. Well what about the delightful and so youthfully elegant Emma Stone? Great eye makeup, great hair and great smile. And then there's the joie de vivre that she so carelessly throws about the place. Refreshing and fun. I mean if you were walking the red carpet, wouldn't you be just stoked? Beside yourself with glee? Yep you would! And this is one of the few people who unleashes that brand of natural joy out there tonight. Good job Em.
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton.  A mille fuille of tangerine silk matched so elegantly with absolutely no earrings, a simple yet gutsy vintage diamond necklace and a bubblegum pink clutch. Killer.
Other magnificent women on the RC included Nina Garcia in another exquisitely crafted delicacy of folds (whose photo I am struggling to find), Kristen Wiig in a nude corseted gown with layered organza and the loveable Giuliana Rancic. Knockout from the front and the back. No easy task.
And here's a few more ladies who really sparkled for me tonight.
Colin's wife looked really beautiful I thought.
Navy. I always love navy.
OK so I'm over the fringe but I love this dress.

I know it's controversial but somehow I like it. The hair, the lips and the gown. Oscars need a little shake up each year and it was Miss Kelly who did it this year.
Best Use of Colour?
This award has to go to Glen Close who stole the colour show with a really incredible sage satin gown. And great hair huh?
Rather than say Worst Dressed, I'm going to call this the Needs Improvement.
Offender No. 1: Stacey Keibler. Now a regular on the RC, Stacey has no excuse for yet another tragic choice. She has wrestled her way to an incredible body, she has the best handbag in town and as I always lament about poorly outfitted RCers, access to the best designers, accessories, jewels and makeup in Hollywood. Come on Stace. It's time to lift your game.
Actress who most needs to pull back on surgery? Melanie Griffiths.
Best of the blokes?
Christopher Plummer. Partly because I just adore the Sound of Music and partly because he reminds me of my gorgeous Dad.
Kenneth Brannagh. Has he had work done? Looks great anyhow.
Brett McKenzie from NZ. A spunky Kiwi with spunk.
Pharrell Williams. GREAT suit.

Zoe Foster - way cool beauty writer

So my latest obsession in the beauty world is Zoe Foster. She's not new to the scene, in fact I've been reading her stuff for years in various mags but her online beauty webisodes are really, really great. She shows us how to apply make-up in a fun, easy, non-profesh way - not like when you go to DJs for one of those special make-up consultations where they make you feel bad if you admit that you don't use primer, base and highlighters. And after just a few views, she becomes a kind of cyber friend. A really nice one who talks to you like your real friends and seems a lot of fun.

Her recent engagement to the equally lovely Hamish Blake just makes the whole story even more deelightful.

So if you want to get the latest beauty tips on great products, how to use them and special sneaky tricks, check her out online via youtube or Mamamia where she contributes regular beauty webisodes.

Golden Globes

Gosh I have to say kids, I'm presently feeling very disappointed with the calibre of sartorial fabuloussness on show at this year's Golden Globes. There really wasn't much to look at, dream about, or covet. The dresses this year were so plain, so dull, so scripted. I managed to pull our a few that I liked but really, these women have no excuse. They're living in the world that day to day worker bees like me dream about. Stylists, trainers, hair and make-up experts, personal chefs and constant motivation to be slim and fabulous and they can't even get it right? Free dresses thrown at them, hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewels on offer to loan and a relatively "sit down" event where they're chauffeured to and from and get to sit down the whole way through - they can be wearing the highest of high heels without worry about wandering the streets for a cab and getting appalling blisters... I mean, seriously, it's the GOLDEN opportunity to go nuts, wear something AMAZING and look frickin hot!

Let me know what you think.

The Best
Elle Macpherson
Clare Danes
Emma Stone
Salma Hayak
Rooney Mara
Maria Manounos

The Worst (gosh where to start? I'm not sure that I can limit this less to under ten but I'll try).

Charlize Theron's mullet dress
Sarah Michelle Gellar (being worn by that blue and white meringue)
Nicole Kidman (too pale for you Nic!)
Angelina Jolie (Madame Tussauds?)
Jessica Biel
Amanda Peet

ሕግፍህ

Biggest spunk? GC. Never disappoints.

Best Couple on Carpet? Ewen and Eve.
